Superintendent Dr. Tawana Grover, in an interview with Iowa’s News Now, addressed these concerns, including allegations from teachers about a "culture of fear" within the district and parents' demands for a delay in implementing the program.

π¨π£οΈ Empowering our students to shape their future!
At Cedar Rapids Community School District, we believe our students’ voices matter β especially when it comes to designing spaces where theyβll learn and grow. Recently Van Buren Elementary and Hoover Community school students were able to give their ideas and opinions in creating the vision for their new schools.
From creative learning hubs to areas for collaboration and play, our students are sharing their ideas, ensuring their school is a place where they feel inspired, heard, and excited to learn. π
When we design with students at the center, we build more than schools β we build futures.

"It is great to see how well our students respond and sing at our concerts. We have two concerts usually in a night, and after the first one, I come upstairs and take some me time. I turn off my lights, and sometimes I’ll just bust out and cry because of how wonderful the students did," said Mr. Tyler, a music teacher at Maple Grove Elementary.
This is what passion and dedication look like. β€οΈ Watch as Mr. Tyler shares the joy of music and the incredible talent of our students in this heartwarming story.

It would be great to see it at west willow and taft also.. They are feeder schools to Jefferson. All the schools that feed to Jefferson should have this! Especially the middle school! If a hoover kid or Van Buren kid ends up going to Taft they lose out.

So the vote says CR does not support one large middle school. So our district spends all this money to tell us "we don't care what you want, this is going to happen." Message heard.
Would this mean that my kids who go to Pierce can now be in the “zone” to go to the new Harding? We live in Kennedys back yard. Our kids attend Pierce…Pierce kids are the ONLY ones who get shipped off to Franklin and then make all new friends who end up going away to Washington. This is bizarre. Not to mention, our address is 2.0miles away from Harding and 3.2mi away from Franklin. How does this make sense!
Crazy spending that much money
And there goes more habitat for animals. So many deer live in that area. I drive by them every day.
If this passes, major pedestrian changes will be required. Nearly all housing areas within 2 miles of this site would not have safe walking routes – Ushers Ferry and Blairsferry are not at all safe for kids/teens to walk!
Why don't you approve better salaries for your teachers
So, why are we upset? I’m just trying to get a better understanding.
If approved I wonder how long it will take to build?
What is the plan for Taft? There is already a significant amount of land there.
Purchasing this land removes $7.5M from the PPEL fund that voters supported. We were told that PPEL was needed to fund maintenance and upgrades to existing facilities. This was a bit of a bait and switch, in my opinion. That said, why would we be building a new $90M state of the art school in the most affluent part of the City, when other areas have much greater needs. The $200M bond issue that they are asking for, is only a start as they will be asking for another $200M in just a few years to "finish up". We are already well below average in most key metrics in our state. Instead of new buildings, lets concentrate on curriculum, discipline, AND better supporting our front line educators! Voting no is not voting against our kids, it is voting against taking money from citizens to pursue projects that do not directly relate to the quality of education.
Very excited about the prospect of a new middle school!
Cedar Rapids Community School District i can tell you now this won't be passed in November 2025 Who comes up with these plans?? Duh.

π A Community That Puts Kids First at CRCSD! π
"I love working for CRCSD because of the people, whether it be staff, students, or families. Our community is so special in that we are all so different and have the opportunity to learn from each other every single day. From the moment I walked in the doors on my first day of teaching, I have felt like I belong here and this is where I am supposed to be." – Abigail Davis, Kindergarten at Trailside Elementary School
Abigail shares what makes CRCSD stand out: "One of the things that makes CRCSD so great is our passion and desire to do what is best for kids. I feel fortunate as an educator to work in a district that emphasizes research-based and data-driven decisions to guide educational outcomes for students. We are always incorporating new and improved methods of instruction and curriculum, like Instructional Empowerment and CKLA, to meet students where they are and to push them to excel."
At CRCSD, educators are empowered to innovate, collaborate, and help every student thrive. π

That sounds great!!
Junior Achievement is awesome!
Cedar Rapids Community School District the entire point of the Parent Meeting last night was freshman seminar. Strange this wasn't brought up last night. Also the entire thing we as parents have been saying is it needs to be the same across the schools. So is this offered in all the freshman seminar schools? What happen to it being mentioned that we were discussing an opt out option this sounds like again everyone should have this. WHAT ARE YOU DOING???? Stop this you heard us last night and we've been saying things need to slow down. You've heard us say things need to start with our kids before they hit freshman year. Having 5th graders and middle schoolers not being able to read isn't going to get the the dipolma plus to graduate. Use what resources we already have and stop making it about money and actually help the kids and support our staff.
Fantastic news!
I know people will complain about literally anything, but problem solving skills? Come on…that’s good!

To the Cedar Rapids Police Department & City of Cedar Rapids Iowa Government (not a government but city hall; a court for the people) Do you truly grasp the depth of discontent festering within the hearts of veterans, civilians, and soldiers alike? Many have shared their anguish with me—confessing their despair, anger, and feelings of being unheard. They speak of wanting to echo the tragic and desperate act carried out by the active-duty member in Las Vegas, who sought to make their pain known through their final, explosive message. These are not isolated sentiments; they reflect a collective cry from those who feel ignored, unheard, and betrayed. Governor Kim Reynolds , you are aware of these realities. Yet it seems easier to dismiss these voices, much like my own. But understand this: I taught them how to blend in, how to appear "normal," so you won't see them coming. You—the officials, agencies, and institutions—serve not justice or the people but a narcissistic agenda disguised as law. The abuse of power through coercion, intimidation, and manipulative rhetoric perpetuates the very terror you claim to oppose. You do not kill in the name of eyΙ God; you kill to sustain a broken system; the narcissistic agenda. But let me make this clear: I do not want my people to kill you. No, I want you to live and face the weight of your actions. To feel the consequences of your betrayal. To be held accountable by the law you so conveniently twist to serve your purposes. (Wordsmithing/gaslighting) This isn’t about destroying the system—it’s about forcing accountability on all sides. Accountability is the cornerstone of justice, the foundation of the courts. Yet, what exists now is a dictatorship of convenience, where city halls and officials impose their will at the expense of the constitutional rights of "We the People." (Narcissistic stonewalling/coercion & intimidation) Your education system ( Cedar Rapids Community School District ) breeds compliance, not free thought. It enslaves rather than empowers. Your government operates on assumptions, fear, and shadows—a far cry from the transparency and integrity required to lead. Congresswoman Ashley Hinson Mariannette Miller-Meeks To the broader audience—those who claim to protect and serve, to legislate and guide: You do not lead. You dominate. You do not inspire. You dictate. You perpetuate cycles of narcissism while ignoring the cries of the people you claim to represent. Understand this: Accountability is not just my demand—it is the path forward. The American Experiment is not about sustaining the mistakes of your predecessors but about learning from them, evolving, and creating a true democracy. Donald J.
